WHAT I LEARNED: 1. This is the first Alateen book I’ve ever read & I was not prepared! I should’ve had a box of tissues along with it – especially for the “Happy/Sad” section that begins on page 300. The simplicity & direct honesty felt like I was reading a bunch of diary entries from teens of all ages that I could identify with since I, too, grew up in an alcoholic home.
2. This book doesn’t just cover the Steps, but also the Alateen Traditions! Each section ends with a workshop that I’m going to start using myself …& with my sponsees.

**UPDATE (2/1/17): “Courage to Be Me” is now featured on Episode #8 of my “CAL Chat” podcast where this book is discussed even further by an Alateen member!
Hey Pat!
This sounds like all of the material you introduced us to like reading. It is so easy to say I wish my kids read this publication when they were young. On the other hand, they have their own paths they have to take. i need to get out of the way. Pray for them and love them is the best thing I can do for them.
Thanks Pat.
Take care.
Sharon
Yeah, I think that’s the biggest thing I’m learning from this blog… that I have preconceived notions about certain pieces of literature I’ve never read, & then when I actually read it, I’m amazed at its power & how relatable it is. This journey through the CAL Catalog is really opening my eyes & my heart! 🙂
Bless you and thank you for posting this.
Sharon 🙂
