WHAT I LEARNED: “Fine” stands for: Frustrated, Insecure, Neurotic, & Emotional. (Actually I learned this sometime ago but I couldn’t remember the entire acronym. Now that I’m writing it in this blog, I can refer back to it if I ever forget again & start telling people I’m “fine!”)
OKAY, NOW I KNOW WHAT I WAS AND NOW I UNDERSTAND WHAT I CAN BECOME IF I DON’T TAKE AL ANON SERIOUSLY. HOWEVER WITH A WONDERFUL WORD LIKE THIS ONE, I WOULDN’T IMAGINE THERE WERE SO MANY NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS. I REMEMBER IN MY YOUTH, CLOSE TO A HALF A CENTURY AGO, WE USED THE TERM, “OH, HE’S SO FINE, MEANING BOSS, MEANING GOOD LOOKING. LITTLE DID I REALIZE, AND I WAS THE ACRONYM OF FINE. I NEVER HEARD THIS UNTIL NOW. THANK YOU.
You’re welcome Sharon!
Don’t you just love the word “neurotic”? It’s such a catchall – worked for me in NYC. Not any more. Not acceptable when you are working the Al-Anon program, but, gee, hate to give up all things I like about the past, like the word “neurotic”. Think I’ll quietly keep the word.
Take what you like & leave the rest, right?
Oh yes, that too is one great part of our opening, or is it closing? Anyways, it keeps the judgment out of it.
